Does anyone out there know the technical name for the test that measures TBARS?

TBARS stands for "ThioBarbituric Acid Reactive Substances", and the TBARS test measures the amount of these in the blood as produced from lipid peroxidation.

My doctor did some research and it's called a 'Lipid Peroxidase' test. It wasn't done by Lab Corp but at a lab in Georgia, Metametrix - 3425 Corporate Way, Duluth, 30098, phone 770-446-5483. I am sure your doctor still has to order the test, my insurance covered it (I think the cost was around $250).

You can go to www.directlabs.com and order your own blood tests. The one for T-Bars is called Lipid Peroxide and when you order it through Direct Labs the cost is $190. Don't know if insurance will pay doing it this way, but if your doctor won't order the test, this is another way to get it. When you order your own blood test this way you will be directed to a lab in your area for the actual blood draw. Hope this is helpful.

TBARS=thiobarbituric acid reactive substance. The primary substance in biolo. systems is a lipid-derived peroxidation product called malondialdehyde(MDA). MDA ia also a component of the fluorescent age-pigment called lipofuscin. The TBARS test is colorimetric.

Good info wvwight, thanks! Did you have the test done? If so how did it come out?

Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances - TBARS - are formed as a byproduct of lipid peroxidation (i.e. as degradation products of fats) which can be detected by the TBARS assay using thiobarbituric acid as a reagent.

OK.... This is my First post here. I just wanted to post my... Tbar (lipid peroxides assay-serum) test results completed by Genova Diagnostics I took my first test on 11/1/2013, two days after starting to take Protandim. The test result of that first test was a score of 2.32 I took the test again on 1/21/2014 while continuing to take Protandim. The test result of that second test was a score of 1.01These test results clearly show even more results than what were demonstrated on ABC Primetime I just had to share !Michael J Luley, M.Ed., LPC Associated Behavioral Consultants, Inc.
